Tomatoes and shading in greenhouse

Monty mentioned cutting  back foliage on tomatoes to ensure the fruit get enough sun to ripen,  admittedly he was talking about outside toms. My greenhouse Toms are still quite green and certainly not as prolific as I hoped. Should I take the shading down to increase the sunshine they see or does this risk scorching everything else in there?

Thank you

  • We have tomatoes in a polytunnel so different from a green house. They have been ripening though for many weeks.
Depending where you are the shading this time of the year might be stopping them from ripening.
However you can still bring some indoors and put them in a sunny window and they will often ripen.
Nothing like a home grown tomato for taste and smell.
    Wish you luck
  • I would remove the shading now - the heat is only here for a few days. Then remove leaves, as Monty said, to allow the sun to get to the tomatoes.
