Roses (or new design) bring life to a very dull pavior drive/garden front

Re: the bins, I vaguely remember one of the GW episodes had a home video with a lady who had made a bin enclosure and planted it up with a green roof of some kind?

Yes can see a few designs like this. They 'sort of' get there but not quite. Mind it's a definite area to see if we can develop a bit.

There's this one on ebay which at first looks a bit 'meh' but the more you look, the more potential it has for some adoption and development....

What about a little bin store type of thing with a big raised planter between it and the front wall?

I think a suitable planter would need be a built one in the same Blockleys Brindle Heritage pavior brick but could work if the design well considered.

The bins we have made progress on.

True story .... Thursday morning, struggled to sleep ... up at 4.15 writing lists and tapping away. I submitted a request to our council mentioning that we have massively reduced our waste, recycling also and green waste by focusing in on eliminating in the first place and finding better ways of recycling within the household and requesting smaller bins.

I got a phone call at 10.30 Thursday morning and by the time home at 18.00, we had old large bins taken away and nice shiny small bins in place .... apparently delivered at 16.30! So 12 hours between an email and a solution. Can't complain at that.
  • I would love to see a big container with a deep purple acer tree sitting in front of the bins. Just one (large in time) tree would look good. You could then consider another acer that is bright yellow to contrast if you were happy with the look. Valerie

Garden Answers August edition had an article on adding interest to a front garden.
You can find the magazine on Press Reader,. I use it for free via my library.

That's spooky Valerie, for many years we have thought exactly about that and forgot in more recent times ... certainly before asking the question about the frontage but that absolutely could well be a way to go and a fairly simple one I imagine.

That said, I've never bought a developed tree. Will be today's job to find suppliers and a specific variant. There are so many types and given time scale I'd like to get that right straight off.

Any idea of places/suppliers to look at? I imagine will not be cheap to source something of size and quality but that's ok.

Thanks K67, would like to look at that but sorry I'm not sure what that is or where to look?

Go to your local authority library website and look for something like 'Electronic resources' or 'e-library' or something like that. Press Reader is an online version of a VAST number of publications, worldwide, which you can access for free with your library card number if your library service subscribes to it. If you tell me your borough (I think you're in London) I can tell you whether they do.

Ahh ok I'm with you. Interesting option. Will look at that. is something it sounds wise to know about.

No not London, way up in the Midlands towards Welsh border. Thanks for the help and suggestion.

In fact that idea has prompted a separate conversation here about an Acer and Magnolia tree. I will make a separate post more specific to the choice of trees, size to buy, where to get etc.

Brilliant idea that I think will be part of our remodelling solution.
