You're not alone, I'm not keen on them either, don't like their habit of suddenly jumping out at me when I'm in the middle of the borders!

    Hi all,

Wildlife gardening is so popular that I am hoping you may have tips for the opposite!

I love animals, have lots of bee friendly plants and bird feeders so we gets a variety of visitors etc but I have an huge fear of all things amphibian and this week there was a frog in the garden  :#

Do you have any tips on how to stop or deter frogs etc coming into our garden?

    On your first point...no, I don't.
On your second ...I would genuinely seek help. It helped me. Not about frogs per set but CBT can be a good way to overcome anxiety issues.
On your third..no, I don't. Stopping wildlife entering or being a part of your garden is just plain daft.

Im not afraid of toads, but I certainly don't like touching them accidentally when I'm fossicking about in dead leaves or whatever. I love to see them, though.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Bit harsh @SydRoy :/
CBT is very useful, and even just trying the little tips others have mentioned re the toy, might be highly beneficial @GardenGem. A gradual exposure to them  :)
I had difficulties with moths, due to a childhood situation, and  I also knew it was ridiculous thing to be scared of, and I'm not scared of any other animal or insect.  I found doing a bit of research and reading helped. The forum has also helped - looking at the fabulous photos some members post is particularly good. I can now happily rescue them from anywhere awkward, and admire them in the garden when I see them.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I like frogs. I'm less keen on the way the cat brings in half a frog and drops it on my foot.

Maybe you could acquire a cat, or the services of a neighbour's cat?
  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a frog phobia; it was challenging for me to open this thread just because i saw the word. I've almost been knocked over by mutiple cars trying to get away from them.
Unfortunately I don't have any tips for you, the last time there was a frog in the garden I didn't go there for over a year.

Feel for you, OP. I truly hate spiders of all sizes and they always manage to land on my gloves in the garden, or appear on any wall I am kneeling in front of. They never do me any harm, though, and gradually my fear is lessening through exposure. I even managed to rescue one from inside the recycling bin last week (I nearly cried, but did it). It doesn't stop the heart pounding sometimes but honestly, you can't be ruled by fear. Be brave. x

Keeping the grass short or screaming for me to come and remove it?  ;)

No way to stop them that I'm aware of, any more than there is a way to stop the occasional spider coming into the house.  Actually frogs may eat spiders, I'm not sure.

A bit perhaps, apologies,  but in my experience dithering or not facing up to the issue eventually makes your life a misery.. for no good reason. It would be a shame to not enjoy gardening because of an irrational fear.
