  • Ah, you will then be part of TNWB, but it's all goodπŸ˜πŸ‘
  • I think such an app can in theory work quite well, especially if it has a good interface for uploading photos so knowledge is crowd-sourced; the back-end would have some sort of neural network learning algorithm run regularly. The one I tried two years ago or so seemed to expect me to upload photos, had a poor interface, and after three trials asked for an unreasonable amount of money. I expect many of these programs are written shoddily and are hoping for quick money. I am kind of hoping a good one will pop up sometime.
  • There are actually very good Apps now available, and there is at least one very good one which is free, called PlantNet. Not only free, but you don't even need to register or have any logins to use it.
I have used it many times to check or confirm IDs, and it's reliable providing you use it correctly, and have a good picture. Ideally more than one picture focussing separately on leaves, flowers, berries, etc, but that's not always necessary.
I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by how good it is. The progress in technology like this is astonishing.Β

PlantNet has been very helpful for me in identifying weeds and things here in the UK. Can't argue with the price.
