Allims in Pots - recommendations and options for underplanting

Hi GW
I would like to grow some alliums in pots this year to take over once the tulips have finished.  Does anyone have any recommendations of alliums that they grow in pots which would flower about the right time - and last a long time?  Grew some drumsticks last year which were fine, but there was too much of a gap between them and the tulips.

Also, any tips for annuals/perennials that could be used to underplant so the ugly leaves are hidden?  Will probably use this just as an annual pot, so no need for consideration of being perennial.

Thanks

I think the biggest problem will arise from leaving the tulips in there. Anything you plant will need exactly the same conditions, because if you have to keep watering, that will be detrimental to them.
As far as alliums are concerned, from memory, Purple Sensation is a bit earlier, but you'd need to lift the tulips and plant them all at the same time, as they will probably be the same sort of sized bulbs, and would need to be at about the same depth. They'll also need feeding as they die down, as will the tulips, which will also affect any other plants, so you need something that's happy to have extra food.

Annuals like nasturtiums might be ok because they need very little attention, but they don't need lots of food.  Pelargoniums maybe, as they'll be fine with that.
Some of the smaller daisies [Leucanthemumns] might also be ok.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
