Peace lily leaves turning black

Hello, I would greatly appreciate your help to figure out what the issue is with my peace lilies: I had 5 peace lilies around the house in the last 2 years-  all very healthy, green, busy, strong, beautiful plants. All of them had flowers now and then. I took care of them on the same way, kept them on the same location, but all of the sudden the leaves started to turn black. The big, healthy leaves -and even the tiny ones were just about to grow - turned black and looked very poorly. All the 5 lilies have died. I still have two fighting for their lives, and I’m hoping I can save them..? Please can you advise what could the issue be? Can it be fixed?

I don’t have house plants but this will bump it up for you. 🙂

Have you tried turning them out to see if they're too wet or dry? If too dry they may need a proper soaking. Assume the smaller pot they're in has drainage holes. Do you ever feed them?

It it looks more like over watering than underwatering. Leaf tips go brown if it's underwatering, typically. Could it be a build up of some minerals in the soil?  I would trim off the black leaves down to the base, take it out and scrape off excess soil and then add new compost and put into the same pots again.  Put some gravel in the bottom of the outer pot so it doesn't sit in water, but has the moisture around it.

  • I agree with @Blue Onion, peace lilies are very obvious when under watered - they flop over clearly. The good leaves are deep green so I don't think it's a feed issue.

Do you have a pet or small child? It looks like the leaves could have been crushed or some other mechanical damage...

The soil looks rather dry. Are the leaves black and crispy or black and soggy? I would cut off any affected leaves at the base. Tip it out of the pot and have a good look at the roots and soil to check the moisture level. They like moist but we'll drained soil.
