lawn problem

Have hundreds of small dead tufts of grass in my lawn this is leaving hundreds of small
holes the the size of marbles lawn is only 2years old has no treat ment other than a lawn 
rake in the spring need some advice on this matter thanks

    Have you a photo?
    It actually sounds like the damage left from crows/magpies digging to get grubs though.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I'd say that 's bird damage  :)
    There might not be the same amount of tasty grubs in your other one. Or they haven't discovered that one yet  ;)

    Crane flies lay their eggs in the turf and the grubs [leatherjackets] underground eat the roots. The crow family love them. Starlings too. They're doing you a favour, although it may not seem like it  ;)
    There are also chafer grubs - same sort of scenario. The adults lay eggs, and the grubs end up below ground, chomping. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I know a bit unsightly, but it means less damage in the long run  :)

    You can go out in a couple of weeks or so, and simply press the bits back down, and the grass will recover no problem  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
