How to control the height a palm tree grows

Hi, we have a lovely palm tree in our garden which has continued to grow amazingly over the past 5 years we have been at our house, it was here before we arrived.
The problem we have is it is under a much larger tree but will in the next 12 months at the current rate be clashing with it, there will only be one winner in this which will be a massive shame (see pics). Is there anyway we can stop it growing taller? what are our options?

  • Sorry, there's really nothing you can do.  Palms have just a single growing point at the top and if that is removed, they either just slowly die or (in some cases) will sprout new growth from the base of the trunk (which will still die) so there is no way to cut them back or limit their height.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Many thanks, is there a chance if it left due to the restriction above it will just stunt its growth?
  • I would think that as the amount of light getting to the fronds decreases due to the shading effect of the tall tree branches above, growth will indeed slow down.

    It's already planted @gardenfunction.
Or are you going to try and flog another one to the OP, by any chance?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
