Pesky Bind Weed

Hi every one
Any tips on how to get rid of bind weed in the middle of a thorn hedge and not kill the hedge off. I have battled with it for a few years live in the middle of fields in the country and sure it came from birds like the blackberry runners. Anything will be helpful, keep cutting it back but its so time consuming at the rate of growth. Thanx to anyone that can help.

Prune up a bit on the bottom of the hedge so you can get to the soil easily without being poked.  Pull out all bins weed as you go.  After that just keep after it by hand and/or sprays (being very careful not to get any weed killer on the hedge leaves, and make sure it's not a long lasting type as that will remain in the soil and harm the hedge).  You may get rid of it after a few months of vigilance.. but not likely and it will just become another gardening task on your weekend list.  Once you've got the worse gone, you could consider adding some sort of mulch - which makes it easier to pull by hand.

Any weed has to be growing strongly for a weed killer to work so not sure if it's too late in the year now.
You could try training the growth along bamboo canes then slide the cane out
and wearing rubber gloves use a thick glysophate gel and rub it on the leaves and wrap in  plastic to stop contact with the hedge. It takes quite some time to reach the roots but I expect you are fighting a losing battle.
  • The other way is a bottle of weed killer into which you put a growing end. Seal it so killer and stem cannot get out, and sit in in the bush to do its work. Unfortunately its a thankless task and is never ending, but it is possible to slow its progress.
  • ThanxK67 and purplerallim will give both a try here's hoping if it has no efect now will try when growth starts next spring Happy Gardening
