Looking for a healthy pink rose

Hi All, We're after a healthy, small/medium, repeat/continuous flowering rose, pref dark pink but light OK, only not peachy. Scent would be nice but not essential. I'm thinking of Old Blush but it may be too big, or Aphrodite but looks a bit salmony in pix, or maybe Sceptered Isle if it avoids the dreaded DA droop! Any suggestions welcome.

  • Have you taken a look at the rose thread? Lots of people post photos of their roses there, and you might see something that you like 🙂 (it's called the new rose season 2020).

'Olivia Rose Austin' for light pink. It's one of the most disease-resistant DAs and a nicely shaped small to medium shrub.
'Gabriel Oak' for a dark pink medium-sized shrub. Or 'Ivor's Rose' from Peter Beales, also a medium shrub.

David Austin send a free catalogue with some useful fold out pages where you could do a comparison of shades of pink. It might give you some ideas. The roses are lovely and descriptions accurate. Peter Beales also send catalogues to browse. Both firms are very good. There's definitely more choice than you would get at a garden centre.

There's nothing healthier than R. rugosa 'Rosarie De l'Hay', ticks all your other boxes (if it's not too big). But I know some people look at rugosas and think 'that's not a real rose'.

  • Thanks, All. bullfinch, edhelka, I'm now looking at Gabriel Oak from rose thread. Loxley, we used to have the rugosa but it was huge and we need something more compact for the space.

I cut my rugosa roses right down to about 6 - 12 inches each spring and they flower and fruit prolifically but never grow tall.
