Foxes are digging my garden up😐

Morning all. My garden is being dug up by pesky foxes. Cats are never a problem but a fix comes about 3:00am and is making a real mess of my beautiful lawn. What do I do to deter them from coming. Ā ArrršŸ˜•

The water scarecrows are about the only thing really.
If you've used bonemeal recently, that can attract them unfortunately.Ā

  • It's really irritating and we had similar issues but have stopped using fish blood and bone and we haven't had any digging for over a year. We still get visits and the odd "present" but nevermind, it's a garden we can't control everything. The only holes we get is from the pesky squirrels.Ā

Apologies for the slight tangent, just wondering how agile foxes are? Compared to cats, say? As we haven't got any gaps in our back garden fences (that I know of), I've always assumed that we don't get much wildlife in terms of mammals (apart from cats!!!) but I suppose foxes could scale 4-5ft fences if they wished?

  • yep, they can go over fences, we have a lowish Victorian wall wall which they mount with no issue particularly the youngsters. Mind you we did have one die and decompose in the path on our boundary a few months back...a grim discovery when I was weeding that mess.Ā

  • Anything a cat can do an urban fox can do ... and more besides.Ā

Rural foxes usually don’t bother.., but they can if they have to

Something must be attracting them to digging your grass. They normally wouldn't bother. Have you put something on your grass?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

The youngsters often don't bother so much if there's a biggish obstacle, but it's like any animal - some are built for speed, some aren't, some are built for jumping, some aren't.Ā
    I'm including humans in the 'animal'Ā  ;)

I've got quite high boundaries in the back garden @Biglad, but I put a gate in at the side after doing my extension. The wee foxy fellows could get over the bit of fence at theĀ  side of that, but once I added a bit onto it, to match the rest of the boundary, he didn't bother. Totally 'foxed' him..... ;)
Either that, or he was a lazy sod.Ā

  • The same thing started happening to me this week.Ā  On monday I noticed my French beans were dug up anf mutiple random holes. Tuesday the garden was covered in poo. Wednesday more poo. Today my bell peppers had been pulled off and scattered in the garden and more poo.
My fault for being so smug to my sister when she was complaining about foxes....... I can no longer say I have a fox free garden
