Pot type for HOSTAS

  • I suppose it's about finding a place where the slugs can't get to too quickly. For us is the side of the house which is all slabbed and they seem to move about very slowly so I get to them on my night patrols easily. My sum and substance in the ground was destroyed this year after a great start but lots of others I managed to keep looking great. They're not for everyone, as they do require to apply yourself to the cause of controlling the blighters but for me it's worth it. Would be great if we had more natural predators but in a city garden not exactly easy. Anyone that could encourage hedgehogs and the like it will probably be easier to win the battle.

  • My hosta's are all in pots in full sun, glazed pots. I've given up trying to grow them in the garden because we get such a lot of rain that they are decimated by slugs constantly. I've recently took a few out of the garden again and potted them up ready for next year. I know that slugs get into pots but my Hosta's are much healthier in pots.
