I might well try "Dahlia 'Mexican Star' " next year. I have been sighing over it for a while.

  • Another vote for Rubenza from me, I’ve also grown Dazzler which is a stunner and taller than Rubenza.

    Dazzler.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.  A mix of Versailles Tetra Red and sea shells would probably suit me.  I prefer a taller cosmos and rubenza is only indicated at less than a metre.  Fortunately a cosmos for everyone's taste.  Good luck throught the winter.  Bob

I sowed Rubenza as well as other colours earlier this month, but they are the only ones showing no signs of life. Possibly unlucky with the supplier.
If l can get hold of some more, is early to mid May too late to sow ?

No, they should be fine @AnniD. Some people sow them directly even at the beginning of June. I’ve sown some mixed types ones and only a few have germinated, so I’m not sure what went wrong there.

I’ve sown Gazebo Red Cosmos seeds this year,  quite expensive £1.89 for 25 seeds. Post free.  (The did all germinate though)
They are dwarf ones growing to 2 - 2.5’. Hoping they won’t blow over, only problem here is trying to find a rough piece of ground to plant them out in.

I sowed Versailles Tetra in Feb and pricked out in March and they are coming along nicely in the zip up greenhouse.  But I sowed Cosmos sulphureus 'Sunset Orange', 'Double Click Cranberry' and Rubenza on the 11th April in the windowsill propagator and I just have a couple of Rubenza and Sunset Orange germinated but quite a few more of Double Click Cranberry.  Fingers crossed for a few more germinating.
I lost the chocolate cosmos - is it possible to propagate it from cuttings does anyone know?  I did try in the autumn but none took.
