Tree & Berry Identification

Hi I'm trying to figure out what the berries are on this plant near the rear of my garden. It's a plant that when I bought the property had been chopped right back and I let grow again and is now around 18ft high and producing a fair few of these berries. They are around 1.5cm in radius and black or a very very dark purple.

I'm wondering if I can do anything with them next year ?

Thanks

  • Damsons ... make damson jam, damson cheese, damson pie, damson wine, damson liqueur .... lucky you.
Pick and freeze them until you have time to do something with them.

  • Ah I thought they might be but wasn't sure. I should have picked them when I picked the apples off the tree the other day. I've made cider with those, I could have carried on and tried to make some Damson wine. They look a bit past their best now so I will wait til next year, armed with some knowlegde and ready for them
