Painted terracota planters
I have been trying all sorts of clear varnish, sealer and paints to seal my terracotta pots which have been painted with acrylic paints. I want to water proof them and leave them with a nice gloss finish. Yacht varnish worked well but seems to affect the colour slightly so cant be used on white or very pale colours. Exterior crystal clear leaves a milky look on the surface more noticable on darker colours. Any help much appreciated the last suggestion is Golden acrylic resin MSA sealer which is expensive. Has anyone used this? PLEASE HELP!!!

I would think any varnish would alter the co,ours slightly but in the end it's a pot not a Picasso.

The kind of climate you have will be the main factor. Getting wet then frozen, then drying, is the usual problem.
The heftier the pot, the longer they last. I've got three which have shrugged off plenty of weather that has seen off other pots quite quickly.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I don't paint my pots cos I just want them not to soak up the water from either the compost or rain and I don't want the algae/moss patina that comes with absorbing moisture. Works well for me here but then this system also worked for me in my last garden in Belgium which was much wetter and colder.
I did also do some painted and decorated (découpage) metal pots for the garden using recycled galvanised laundry pots which I finished with oil based yacht varnish and found that peeled and cracked and/or went yellow.
