Cuttings

Hi everyone, new member, quick question, is it possible to take a cutting off my tomato plant now and put it in water to sprout roots?

Yes you can pull off a sucker and root it in water, you can even keep it indoors in a pot over winter if you have an area with good light, you can then use that plant to make new cuttings in the spring and get a bit of a jump on spring sown seeds.

Second 'yes', exactly as Skandi says.  Cuttings will bloom and fruit before seed grown tomatoes of the same size, because it is mature plant growth.  Your plant over winter will be leggy and less than healthy.. so use that for spring cuttings.  Keep and eye out for red spider mites over the winter, they like the soft tomato leaves.
