If I spread a lawn treatment ‘by hand’ i first mark the lawn out into 1m x 1m squares with canes and twine.
I then weigh the amount to be applied per square metre in a paper cup and mark the level and use this for each ‘handful. That way it can be applied without risking an overdose and damaging the lawn.
Was the treatment measured out carefully in this way ... or did the person simply walk back and forth dipping their hand into a container of the treatment and scattering it?
That might give you an answer.
