I was going to say Twelvenunns too. But if you can get to a garden centre or nursery between now and February, you can often pick up bigger plants for a similar price.

  • May I suggest you wait until next spring and decide which one you want when they are in flower.
    You can chose colour.
    Spots/no spots.
    Single flowers or double.

Prices of plants have actually dropped over past years.

I certainly wouldn't buy from Crocus. It isn't a nursery - it's a retail outlet, so much more expensive.
I'd agree with @Silver surfer. Some can be quite disappointing, so if you want a specific colour, it's better to wait and see them 'in the flesh'.
Hellebore niger though, is fairly consistent.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • @CatyR I've just had a Google and there's lots of 9cm pot plants available for very reasonable prices. We bought out collection last spring (obviously before the covid lockdown). We were covering a large area so bought some larger specimens then filled in with lots of the 9cm pots, all flowered really well in fact we have had lots that have flowered all year (clearly very confused hellebores).

Lots of reasonably priced ones? Unless you include T&M, whom I will never give my money again. I must be missing something.

(I  am foreign and am probably looking in the wrong places)

How lovely that yours flowered so soon, Wilderbeest!

Look for proper hellebore suppliers @sarinka
Ashwoods and the aforementioned Twelve Nunns are just two. I think Beth Chatto does mail order too.

If you have a lidl nearby then keep an eye around Christmas time. I bought hellebore nigers as 6 packs in bedding plants section from there.
For good colours get from b&q and homebase if you cant go to garden center.

Thank you, @newbie77! That does give me a spot of hope of stumbling across some, as there are no garden centres nearby.:)

Just to make sure, I just impulse-ordered a few from Twelve Nunns as recommended above. I am trying Harvington Double Blush, Single Picotée, Double Purple Cascade and Double Cream Speckled (only meant to buy three but could not whittle it down further). Now I just have to hare outside to prepare a bed for them.

Very grateful to you all for saving me from spending a similar amount ordering seeds from Germany which wouldn't have flowered till the end of time!

Yes, I've got confused ones flowering too. I'm hoping they still have enough energy to flower again in spring.
