Protect grass seed

Hi, I have another question please.

I am putting down some grass seed on an area of about 3m by 1.5m. We have noticed a local cat has been using the area as it's toilet and don't want it to do so when the seed is down. Can you use Gardener's fleece to cover it while it gets established? Or is it too thick? I don't want to use netting as I have lots of birds and a few hedgehogs and I'd rather not take the risk of them getting caught up in it, even if it is pulled tight.

Any advice is gratefully received

Rachel

I used netting stretched tightly. It was raised up off the ground enough [on canes]  and then fixed right round the edges. Nothing could get in. Same process as protecting fruit/veg crops etc.  :)
I think fleece might keep light out, especially at this time of year, but it's not something I've tried.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
