Honeysuckle

Hi
I am going to plant fragrant honeysuckle to run up a garage wall.
I have bought pots which are 50cm wide and 50cm deep.
If I put the new plants in the middle of the pots (i.e. 25cm away from the garage wall), will they still be able find the trellis or would it be better to plant them nearer to the edge of the pots so they are nearer the trellis?
Thanks for any help.

They’ll find the trellis ... you can help them gently and tie the first few stems in when they’re long enough.
You’re probably aware of all the problems connected with growing honeysuckles in containers but just in case here is some research for you 😉 https://forum.gardenersworld.com/search?Search=Honeysuckle+containers

Make sure you don’t just use ordinary multipurpose compost John Innes No 3 with the addition of some multipurpose compost at a ratio of 4:1 is what they need ... and water, water, water ... 2 buckets full at least three times a week from early March to late September ... possibly more in hot spells.

  • Really appreciate that. Thanks.
The whole lot (plants, pots etc) are a birthday present so it's a free hit.
