@Wilderbeast - I sow in April, indoors, and once the small pots are big enough to split up, they stay on the windowsill until at least June [going by general weather] just being potted on once usually. I do clumps - they never do very well if you try to split into individual plants. I try and do another sowing in July/August, but I'd still do that inside, especially if it was August. It wouldn't germinate outdoors here.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Mine are in the poly tunnel, in moist free-draining soil. I water them every day, only in the morning, because damp leaves overnight are bad for them. Maybe water every other day once cooler autumn days set in, but don’t let them dry out. Keeping the soil moist helps discourage flowering a bit. Also, keep picking as they grow, whether you want leaves for cooking or not. Rather than picking a lot from one plant, go over them all, nipping a small sprig just above a pair of leaves. This encourages bushiness, which also seems to slow down flowering. I used to put one under each tomato plant, but have found that they prefer to be grown together in one patch.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.
