When the best To Cut or Prune Palm tree?

Hello
If anyone can help when the best time of year to cut or prune this Palm tree?
Last time it was done it seem to die since did have a trunk but then grew back like this.

    Of course worth pointing out it's a yucca and not a palm as such, they are in the agave botanical family. It looks quite the beast with all that growth...not sure it can be tamed. But I suppose it depends where you are and what other choices you have for replacing it.

    Actually it looks like a Cordyline to me  :/

    Anyway, timing depends on your climate. Spring is probably best:

    I always forget cordylines can look as messy...doh. Too many yuccas around the dry part of Greece I grew up in...had an instant flashback.
