Scale insect on rose

If  I rub them off with a toothbrush, will they crawl back onto the plant?
In London. Keen but lazy.

  • Nope, they can only move about when they are young, known as 'crawlers'.  Once they settle on a feeding spot, their travelling days are over.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
