Purple Gusto chilli plant

hi everyone,

I sowed some purple gusto chilli seeds beginning of June.  Never grown chilli before.

Do do I need to pinch them off at the top? Let it flower? What is the best feed? Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

  • Let it flower, don't pinch anything out ... it's a bit late in the season ... chillies are usually started in Feb/March to get a decent crop but yours is flowering so you may get some fruits ... you might need to pollinate the flowers yourself with a cotton bud as there won't be the pollinating insects about ... some folk even overwinter chillies indoors on sunny windowsills so if you can do that and avoid whitefly and aphid infestations you'll have a head start for next year.

I would feed yours with dilute tomato feed weekly until the end of Sept and keep it indoors in a warm and sunny place ... don't let it dry out but they don't like to be soggy either.

    Good luck  :)

Thanks for taking a look and commenting.
What do I need to do to overwinter them?
    Many thanks!
  • Indoors on a bright windowsill.

Water as needed to keep them alive but not soggy.

Remove any aphids or whitefly with finger and thumb or a spray of soapy water.

In late Feb I would repot in fresh compost and reduce the height by half.
