Using compost after late blight

I had a lot of tomato plants in raised beds which unfortunately succumbed to late blight just after the heatwave.  Within a week they were all dead but I did manage to salvage a few tomatoes.  I have removed all the plants and any diseased tomatoes and put them in my council green bins.  The question is whether I could reuse the compost from the beds at all.  My original plan was to rotate crops in the beds next year but I don't think that is sensible now.  However I was about to wondered whether I could use the compost as mulch on my flower beds or do I need to get rid of that too?  Thanks

You can use that compost for any plant that isn't in the Solanaceae family, so no potatoes or tomatoes, or anything else in that family, there are some ornamentals as well as the main veg crops. but you can put anything else in there that you want.

  • Thanks.  I'd decided to use it as mulch on the borders of front garden (which needs it anyway) and to replace the compost as at some time I may grow tomatoes there again.  I couldn't bear to throw it away.  It was bad enough losing all my tomato plants (about 30 in all).
