Bug ID help please

Can anybody tell me what these are ?
Found about 20 of them in 2m as area of plot not touched for a couple of years. They're 3 - 4 cm long and very wriggly when exposed to the light.
Don't  want to kill them, just move somewhere else if they're not veg friendly.
Many thanks

They look like chafer grubs to me.

This is a wonderful resource which should help ID them.

  • Many thanks. After a bit more research, I think they're  cockchafer grubs, so have given them a new home in the wild area by the farmer's  pond.

Chuckling here @Biglad  ... The name means ‘big beetle’. They are magnificent beasts ... we love finding them.
Also known as May Bugs, June Bugs or Doodlebugs ... and over here in Suffolk and Norfolk they’re known as a Billywitch.
