New house - garden experts required!!
Hi all,
I have owned my first home for 1 year and now and in the position to really sort the garden out. A lot of work has been done to be in the position it is in now as the previous owner let it get into horrendous condition.
I have some queries, see photos below.

This is the garden as of today.

1. The grass on the first tier is on a slope and as seen in the photo is very uneven and has patches of grass missing. What is the best method at correcting this? This applies to the rest of the garden where there is grass

2. Beyond our garden I have started to strim the foliage as we want to utilise this wasted space! There was a tree here when we moved in but I have cut this down. The surface here is again on a gentle slope and has extremely thick brambles growing up. What would be the best method of killing everything here as I want to slow the foliage from growing back until I decide what I want to do up here! Suggestions welcome
I am a gardening noob!
Regards,
Ollie.

What do you want your garden to provide, is it a just to make it a nicer space to look out on, a play space (for children or pets) or do you want to grow vegetables?
Even just a grassy space will need some maintainance and a lawn mower.
Strimming the bit at the back will obviously make it look better temporarily but to stand any chance of reducing it permanently you would need to keep doing it frequently. Personally I would be inclined to put up a 5/6ft fence along the back with an access so that you can stop it spreading to your garden but don't have to look at it.
If you cut your "lawn" and rake out the old dead stuff it may be that it could be patched. Any hollows or dips can have compost spread on to level them out and then reseeded, now is the ideal time as its not too hot but the ground is warm enough for seed to germinate.
A new lawn requires quite a lot of preparation whether you use turf or seed, seed is obviously cheaper but turf is a quicker result.
You certainly have a lot to think about!
