It's not clear just where the sun is, but perhaps consider the things called "vertical fruit cordons", which are for example a pillar of plums or apples.

I have plans for a greengage and a plum for my South facing side when I have had my pergola built.

  • It does look beautiful as does the rest of your garden i can see from the picture.   My minds made up cant wait till i can start planting now. Thank you @Songbird-1 for the pictures and everyone for all your suggestions.

Nice tree @Songbird-1, but I've always been under the impression they aren't terribly hardy. Is that a hardy one you have?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I think Fairy may be right. If @Shimmer_77 is in the south of the country planting into a sheltered garden with well drained soil then everything should be ok.

If, however (s)he is north of the border or on an exposed site and / or planting into heavy clay it might not be the right plant.

It will probably be fine in 75% of UK gardens but it's important that Shimmer is aware of the potential risk.

Lovely plant in the right spot though @Songbird-1 😎
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
