Advice needed for my Acer please

Hello, we moved house last year and I'm concerned about my Acer.  I think we've had it in too sunny a spot which we can resolve.  I believe we need to move it to a larger pot - what do you think?  Also any advice on how best to re pot it? Many thanks.  I'll attach some pictures.

Repotting is best done in spring, but, to be honest, you could probably just do  it now. The main problem with that pot is that it isn't full.  :)
You can remove some of the old soil from the top inch or so first.  Wet it thoroughly - [it looks very, very  dry ] and remove carefully, and when you repot, make sure the finished soil level is a bit higher. You only need an inch or so between the soil and the top for watering. It's also a good idea to raise it off the ground to allow for good drainage.  :)
In spring, you can give it a slow release food, and add a little mulch of bark or gravel to help retain moisture, especially if you're somewhere drier. Keeping it in a bit of dappled shade is ideal, although the darker ones have their best colour with some sun.
Long exposure to very high temps aren't good though, especially in pots where they can dry out very quickly. Wind does the same.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I would definitely do something to help it along. If you could give it a bigger pot it would help. (You can buy stands with robust wheels if you want to move them, but they are expensive - made by Tom Chambers). Being able to adjust their position so that you can avoid some sun damage could be useful. I have a similar tree with similar damage as this year has been a mix of intense sunshine and pretty powerful winds. If you use a bigger pot it will have more soil and ultimately more moisture. I always use a mix of ericaceous and JI number 3 for a bit of weight. I suppose I'm a bit naughty but anything moving from one pot to another gets moved when the weather looks fairly cool and damp so now might be as good a time as any. Good luck getting it out of the pot! I had a 3 hour session with a bread knife and a tree in a pot similar to yours! If you can't shift it, replacing some of the compost will certainly help but nothing is going to repair the wind/sun damage this year. P.S. despite the rough treatment my tree has continued to thrive!
