Petition: Reject the proposals for Junction 10 of the A3/M25

I did search to see if I could see if anybody had already posted this, but could not find anything.  Sorry if this is a duplicate.  I did look.

Please can you sign and share to all friends and family passionate about gardening, wildlife and safeguarding the heritage of our and the future generations.

This is NOT about stopping the whole A3/M25 scheme but simply asking the Department of Transport to consider and implement an alternative scheme proposed by the RHS that actually would reduce carbon emissions compared to the proposed scheme, and also safeguard the future of 44 trees that have been growing at Wisley for 150 years.

    There was a thread about this but no harm in having a reminder for those who haven't seen it.

    Thanks, @pansyface.  I have signed as a fellow gardener and a rambler.  They can't just create these places and then take them away at whim because it suits them.

    If its any help to know local action works - we have a large green space in Surrey called Newlands Corner.  The county council, without much debate or discussion, decided in their infinite wisdom to impose car parking charging with the promise that they would use the money to 'improve the facilities' there including knocking down the existing tea shop which was privately run and was sufficient for the trade stopping and passing by.  After a lot of campaigning and petitions, the council eventually scrapped the car parking charges.  What is more galling for the people of Surrey is the people who made these decisions sit in Kingston-upon-Thames which technically is no longer in Surrey but in Greater London.  It would be surprising if most of those in the County Council knew where Newlands Corner was or if they did if they actually knew what a wonderful local (free) resource it is to the residents of Surrey.  Local action does work so I hope your petition is a success.

    @BenDover @pansyface

    Signed both petitions!
  • Well though I don't like the idea of cutting down trees for a road - isn't it a bit pot and kettle? How many healthy tree went for the new science block?

    32 trees were identified for removal. Of those, only 16 were considered to be of moderate/good quality.  The other 16 were considered to be of low (12) or low/moderate quality (4).  Of the 16 moderate/good quality these included Monteray Pine, a decayed Oak with reduced life expectancy, a birch, a semi-mature pine and Japanese red cedar.

    The plans for the new science block includes the planting of up to 70 new trees, more than doubling what has been lost.

    Thanks.

    And I suspect the work that will be done in that science block will be of far more future value than a bit of road.
