Brown speckles on Pumpkins

I have two pumpkins growing in the same raised bed and they're both almost ripe. I've noticed today they both have faint brown speckles on the fruits and wondering if this is a sign they need harvested now? Or if this is a sign of them rotting or diseased?

I've tried to google the problem but not seeing any examples that match the problem.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

  • the speckles feel like raised bumps and with them so close to be harvested, I'm hoping this isn't a bad sign
  • thank you, I'll keep an eye on it. They just appeared quite suddenly so I was surprised, but otherwise they look healthy  :)

My pumpkins always have small blemishes, nothing to worry about. If the outsides are hard when you press them and not soft they are probably ready for harvesting. Mine are ready now but they are always ready earlier than in the UK.

I think it is just branch rub.  If the skin hasn't been damaged or cut at all, they are good to keep.  I usually harvest mine when the vine has died away and cannot nourish the fruit any more (Hallowe'en).  If it is damp where you are, you could place a brick or piece of tile under it to keep it off the wet ground.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
