help with plum tree

plum tree has a bumper crop but the wind has split 2 branches that i CAN NOT SAVE do I take them of at the end of fruiting or when it has shed the leaves I am not sure. Dont want to lose the tree!!!!

    Any type of pruning to plums is best done now - leave it any later and you risk Silver Leaf disease entering the wound.  However, that's best done when a few dry days are forecast.  If wet where you are now, I'd cut some weight off now above the split but leave the final cut(s) until the weather permits.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
