Verbena B. cuttings

  • I've just taken some more v.b. cuttings today actually, I had lots of bent but alive stems after the storms this week so figured it was worth a go whilst tidying up. Hopefully they'll take.

Am I the only one not keen on VB? I prefer Thalictrum.
East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.

I had never heard of or seen verbena until this year and I like that the insects like it. I have a small area by a fence that needs some height and VB seems like it would be perfect. I’ve never heard of thalictrum either but just googled it and it looks lovely.

I like not as well. Different sites though, so that's good.
Thalictrum is happy in shade, which isn't so good for V.bon. It's also much tougher than V.bon if you're in a colder, wetter area, as it's likes a bit of dampness in the soil  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I do have a few shady areas next to my fence... maybe some thalictrum will have its turn next year as well.

Hello all,  verbena grows like weeds here too,  in Ipswich.  It's mild though and a walled garden. I've just pulled out at least 50 growing in cracks in the path.  I normally plant them in the ornamental grass bed as they look lovely with the seed heads but they plant themselves wherever they fancy!

I've just realised I put 'not' instead of 'both'   on my previous post, so it doesn't make sense.
I think there's only been one year I've ever had V.bon seedlings, and I leave the heads on them all winter. Usually too cold for them to germinate, so I need a back up.
The ones in the ground make it, depending on the spot they're in, and I cut them back depending on the time of year and the height I want. I have some against the house wall now, so they're ok - so far.

My VB seeds itself in all sorts of places but if I try to transplant the seedlings they never take so now I just let it do its own thing and kee
