Bulb compost vs MPC

Hi all
Just starting to plan/dream about planting spring bulbs in pots. Should I use the special bulb compost or am I just being suckered by marketing? What about MPC or JI loam-based? I probably will move the bulbs to the garden after one year in the pots.

Thanks!

I would use JI compost, number 3, the bulbs then would be good for putting in the garden when you want.
  • I agree with cornelly. J.I 3 is ideal for your bulbs. M.P.C. can be used too if preferred, ideally peat-free. The bulb compost on sale probably has charcoal in the formula as this acts to 'sweeten' the compost for growing of indoor bulbs such as forced hyacinths or Paperwhite narcissus.

I've never used anything other than a decent multi purpose compost.
If they're being planted out next year, that's all that's needed.

  • Thanks all, I'll stick with what I have rather than buying anything special.
