Could I improve my erigeron?

This rockery plant has been excellent this year. I have cut off spent flower heads at regular intervals - and there are still more to come ...... but, as you can see from the photo, some bits are very “leggy”. Could I cut back in to the corky bits (perhaps next month?) to produce more compact plants next year?

I cut mine back really hard, usually in the spring but find it takes a while to flower again.
Just been reading that you should cut it back to ground level in the Autumn so will be doing it that way this year!

What kind of erigeron is it?

From the picture it looks like Erigeron glaucus, which is the one I have.

Thanks for you interest: I have always thought it was Erigeron karvinskianthus - but am not so sure now! It certainly looks like Erigeron glaucus - but what is the difference?

Erigeron karvinskianus has flowers that look like and are about the same size as a lawn daisy.

Erigeron glaucus has larger leaves and flowers (mauve)

Thank you. It’s Erigeron glaucus! Will do as you intend to do, madpenguin and cut back in to corky bits this Autumn.
