Overgrown Orchid Rock Rose

Good morning . I have an overgrown Orchid Rock Rose . As it’s quite sprawling I’d like to cut it back but everything I’ve read warns against this . Does anyone have experience of doing this or can advise me ? Thanks. Nick

I'm not an expert, but replying in the hope that one of the experts will see the post and reply!

You're right, the accepted wisdom is that Cistus don't like hard pruning. I think you would be OK trimming back to green side shoots, but not to wood. I guess the other thing you could do is thin out a few branches right down, rather than cutting it all. If it really is a nuisance, then probably worth trying in the spring, and plan to replace - maybe take cuttings in the mean time? I think they are fairly short-lived anyway.
