...and people with degrees, PhDs, high IQs (who presumably have the nous to 'research')Â .... voted for Boris, Trump, Brexit, the death penalty....and? What level of 'research' makes someone's opinion better than someone else's - and then - how could you ever have opposing opinions if 'research' and reading the 'right' paper is all you need to do? Surely we'd all then agree on the same outcome?
We all form opinions based on a wide variety of reasons - some that we're not even immediately aware of - from emotional to financial to....to... What makes one decision making process better than another?
Should we all be led by 3 word slogans? Or should we read a press that is (too) closely linked to politics...or believe one politician giving '..the fact of the matter..' over an opposing politician also giving '...the fact of the matter...'? What source for 'research' has not been accused at some point of bias?
Sorry, that sounds accusational - not meant to. I just find this sort of 'stuff' fascinating and how people judge others - often without realising that they themselves are then being judged by others who have different outlooks to theirs.
@steveTu there is a significant body of scientific and psychological study that tries to understand why humans instinctively prefer other humans who are like themselves. That preference translates across all attributes, underpins why populism works, and even goes some way to explaining why "competent" drivers get irritated by learner drivers far quicker than by any other type of driver. It also posits the question as to whether this modern phenomenon of hyper sensitivity to injustices (real or perceived) is a genuinely held belief or whether a proportion of, for example, people on extinction rebellion marches are actually participating due to herd mentality and "social proof" rather than their own genuinely held desires.
It is, quite simply, human nature to follow the idiots because there are more of them.
Of course my opinion is that a) anyone who wants to become a politician should be immediately barred from ever becoming one, and b) anyone who disagrees with me on any topic is, of course, wrong.
It makes me laugh when you see fashion changes (whether that's politics, interior decoration, clothes, cars...) - how a 'trend' takes off and how people 'love' the new trend. Then they look back in 30 years and are horrified. But we all like to think we're not influenced that easily and that we make 'our own decisions'. Tattoos anyone?
Also, when you first see a new fashion you think: WHAT!? And eventually,it becomes normal and then out of date and then, eventually years later, you come back to WHAT!?

If anybody saw the way I dress they would know I'm the complete opposite of a Dedicated Follower of Fashion. I will never understand why people are prepared to pay extra to walk around looking like a mobile advert.
Scary eh? I still like loafers, two tone trousers and Ben Sherman shirts.....
In some cases though you have no option do you? You go into the shops - and because of the 'Mall' (what is a a 'mall'? I thought that was a heavy stone working hammer) - all the shops are the same. They want to cash in on the trend - their buyers all go to the same shows and have the same suppliers. From handbags to wallpapers we're all led by the nose. Trousers down around your ankles flashing your underwear anyone?

I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, just as long as they realise their opinions are so obviously wrong. :-)
