Flint-based gravel, anyone?

Is it intended for your main access path in your garden?
My (elderly) friends had this or a very similar-looking one as their well-used path from the garden gate to back doors and it moved so much under foot that they found it very tiring to walk over on a regular basis, like walking in deep sand or powder snow!  They ended up shovelling it up after a year and used it elsewhere in the garden to fill a gap between paving and walls.  It was laid on top of weed supressing membrane over a compacted base of some type of scalpings.
This is what I was worried about... It's not a main access, no. I have a paved path for that. It'll be for bordering my lawn (very similar to the picture kindly provided above!), a small gravel garden sitting area and floor cover in a small pottager type raised-bed garden...

What depth did they lay it!
It certainly shouldn't be difficult to walk across, and certainly shouldn't be like walking through snow - of any kind.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • 😳 just the standard 5cm-ish, over a 75cm wide path - the stones were too rounded, hence the slip-sliding!  We benefitted from the lesson and when our turn came to make a gravel path we chose a harder, more faceted product, which behaves very well.  However, I must say your gravel looks beautiful in the photo, so guess it's a case of horses for courses 😀

The stuff I have is certainly 'jaggy' enough - perhaps it was a more rounded type your friends had.
The path in the pic is the access to the rear gate, so whether walking or using the car, I'm on it virtually every day. I rarely use the front door  :)
It's certainly quite similar to the gravel in @Gaughan.david's original photo when it's wet.  :)

Does mine look as jaggy as yours?! I think jagginess is the key..
