What’s eating my money maker aubergines?

Hello,

I have moneymaker aubergines in terracotta pots in my greenhouse. As you can see from the photos they have really weird holes in them. This  already happened but I put it down to a weird anomaly but it’s still happening as you can see… Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Hi @Gardener Eve  I see no one has replied, because no one has an answer.  Neither do I but, this happens to my aubergines too, so I just cut this bit out!  Could be snails or slugs - but I don't think it is a disease that you need to spray for.  It's definitely been nibbled at - mice?  They are nesting now.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • Hello, thanks for replying. Yes I was wondering Those things too- it’s just that there are no slime  Trails  anywhere on the aubergines so I was thinking probably not slugs and then the narrowness of the holes on one of them makes a mouse seem unlikely although the bigger hole which is wider I guess could be a mouse. It’s such a shame as they’re already so small to lose such big chunks of them! Never mind I’ll keep looking and see what I can spot! Thx 😊

My guess is slugs. Check under your pot rims and trays etc. they lurk all over the place and dont always leave trails.

  • I had a great big caterpillar on one of mine!

Looks like slug or snail damage.  Another possibility is the Tomato Moth, which can attack peppers and aubergines, too:
The caterpillars are mainly nocturnal and are extremely good at hiding!
