SENICIO CANDICANS ‘ANGELS WINGS’

Please help a novice gardener
my beloved angels wings is poorly. I can see little green eggs on the leaf stems. What are they and what do I need to treat it with? There seems to be a lot of lice type bugs and ants in and around the pot

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid I have the same problem, they grow well into fine plants and then collapse like yours and die.

So far I have managed to root cuttings from side shoots before they die, at the moment I have two very small plants from cuttings.

Others have had no problem with theirs.

In one Blue Diamond GC last year they had them for sale at £44.45 per plant!
  • Just sprayed it in pesticide free universal bug control as it does seem to be alive with ants and lice. I’ve just removed a large snail too. Will see how it goes 😞

I remove all the dead leaves from mine to keep the centre clear. They can get leggy but when that happens I just take the secateurs and cut the top off. I plant this in gritty compost, put in a sheltered place and keep it watered. The side shoots left behind soon grow enough to fill in and cover the stump. When a side shoot got broken off one of my big Angel's Wings I planted that and after a couple of weeks it changed its growth from horizontal to vertical. I can't bring myself to chuck bits in the compost which just might grow! I think that removing dead leaves which allows more circulation of air inside the plant is the way to keep them going.
  • Yes think I’ll cut it back - clear the bugs with the spray and see if it re-grows

@debi.keableX5Jj-MiM before you cut anything, I'd pull off all the dead leaves and see how the remainder of your plant looks. You will probably remove much of messy parts and the bugs which seem to be in the axils of the leaves. You might be surprised as to how much better it looks and be more able to see where the cuttings can come from. You might even think that it looks well enough to keep it in one piece for a while.
