Lavatera barnsley baby

Hi. Hope you are well and keeping safe. I planted my young plants of lavatera and they have been wonderful flowering. However over the last week with the weather they have taken quite a beating but also have become quite leggy. Can I cut it back now in early September and how do I do that. Also if I leave the seed pods will it self seed and regrow in the same place next year. Look forward to hearing from you. Blessings to you

You can shorten stems by up to 50% now to make it look tidy and minimise the risk of wind rock over winter. In late March, if no hard frosts are forecast, cut it back almost to ground level.

The plants will grow back in the same place every year ... until they die, and that might not be too far away. They’re short lived so maybe 5 years or so.
