My tomatoes dont turn red

Hi

my tomatoes started to grow in early June. Those are still green and they are not turning red. Any idea what might be the problem and what can I do please?

thanks

try a banana skin hung on the bush, it helps ripening. Plus it depends what variety you have.

P.S. If they are outside they might not be ready yet
  • Interesting... I heard about covering the tomato in paper but only once it has been ripened.

    its Alicante variety

Its best to get the toms turning from green before putting them in a paper bag to ripen.
  • How long might it take to ripen? Maybe you are right and it’s too early and I need to wait more

It's completely normal, nothing wrong with them. They stay green for ages but once they start turning colour, it usually goes quickly.

It's warmth that ripens them - ideally between 25c and about 30c
    Below 25 it takes longer.
Much above 30C for a prolonged period and they also slow down ripening

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Right. It’s unlikely to be over 25º this year again so it will not ripen then?
what do you suggest to do?

But tomatoes also ripen in the fridge... so it can't just be warmth which ripens them...
