Vine weevil

My poor lawn has been looking awful after using a weedkiller and lawn food on it. So decided to replace some of the dead areas with some new turf. Today while digging it all out I discovered my lawn is full of vine weevil grubs. I even found 2 adult weevils crawling round my kitchen. I usually get them mostly in spring in my greenhouse where I overwinter some of my plants. I may be wasting my time laying new turf.

It seems late for vine weevil grubs. They're normally just laying the eggs at this time of year.

    Are they definitely vine weevil?

    They may be chafer grubs.

    Here's some info from RHS:

  • I thought it was early for vine weevil. I think you're right. Thanks for your help. Looks like nemotodes on the shopping list. I've heard that a solution of Jeyes Fluid would work but reluctant to use it. Toxic to animals.

I doubt it'll do your grass much good either.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

No problems.  I would stick to the nematodes rather than using chemicals. Think of the rest of the life in there.

Make sure you've got a metal rose for your watering can as the nematode "soup" clogs up the plastic ones.
