Garlic advice for next year's crop

I'm giving up on garlic at my allotment after losing much of the last two crops to white rot. This summer I created two raised beds at the end of my garden lawn and am thinking of using one for garlic next year. The area doesn't get any direct sunlight from about Oct to Feb, then it is in pretty much full sun for the rest of the year. I am unsure if planting in autumn (which is what I have done previously) will be a problem due to the lack of direct sunlight, or if I should wait and plant a spring variety. Any thoughts appreciated!

Hello @knittedtrim  I grew garlic last year planting it on the shortest day (21st December).  It went well for quite some time and then about a month before harvest, (longest day),  it got black mottled spots all over it.  As there is no treatment for garlic, I let it continue.  Harvest was mediocre.  Problems like that usually come from the seed and not the soil, although you are doing the right thing by changing position this year.  Good luck.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
