Does anyone know what these balls are on a onion flower

    Could be bulbils, which are small bulbs which can appear instead of flowers on some alliums.  The best known one is the 'walking onion' which doesn't flower at all as such, but I've seen both 'ordinary' onions and garlic do this, so must be in the genes of many allium species.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
