When to prune calla lillies

Hello everybody,
Any recommendations about what to do with the green foliage from the while calla lillies (see picture). The stems are taking a bit of a battering. Can I cut them right back to the base and leave them until next year - perhaps plant something around them? Soil is damp and they are always in shade except for a hour or so a day at the height of summer.

    I cut the damaged ones right down. You'll still get new leaves . Mine are growing like crazy still

    Thanks a lot for getting in touch Hostafan1. I’ll do just that. 
    By your name I am making a wild guess you know a little about hostas?! Any recommendations for both damp and dry shade? I have plenty of both.

    no problems in the damp shade. maybe avoid the yellow variegated forms, the yellow ends up more green. 
    Dry shade, add plenty of organic matter before planting
