Mine have been beautiful up until about a week ago I will be pulling them up this weekend but they have been fantastic value, covered in flowers for weeks for less than £1 a plant.
I have grown Surfinias from plug plants this year and they are giving a fantastic display, much better than Petunias and more prolific despite the very high temperatures all summer.
@BenCotto. Please stop showing that beautiful little red brick house, you make me green with envy.😁 BTW,your petunias are gorgeous, and I love those yellow ones, how unusual, did you do them from seed?
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
The yellow and caramel ones, and also a terracotta red which I did not photograph, are calibrachoa/petunia crosses. Sometimes called petchoa, they are in the Beautical series and the colours are French Vanilla, Caramel and Cinnamon.
I got them as plug plants from Suttons but will endeavour to overwinter them in the cold frame or greenhouse and propagate them in early spring. Protected by PBRs, any spares will be given away.
Do you like cosmos or sunflowers? I think they are both quite good for bees. Or maybe poppies?
I’m planning sunflowers next season, would be interesting to see if they are popular with the bees. And I have poppies, which unfortunately have only a very short flowering season.
Bidens seem to be quite floriferous so probably will get a few of those as well.
My favourite this year is basil African Blue - it’s just the best for bees (and people, as it’s edible). And it flowers for months. Literally.
Thankyou for the info @BenCotto Not normally a Petunia fan but as you say these are not the norm. Have made a note of them, and where you got them. Good luck with over wintering.
