Wax flower pruning advice.

JacquimcmahonJacquimcmahon Posts: 1,039
Hi all, I know wax flower is something perhaps not often grown in the UK as it has little tolerance for frost, but is anyone does grow it how would you advise to prune it? My bush has ended up with a hard woody center and loads of soft fluffy top growth, but it just looks really sparce from the middle down. I don’t want to hack it down too far if there is a risk I’ll kill it, or damage beyond repair.

thanks for your thoughts (ps I looked on the web but could not find if it would re sprout from old wood).

    Is it this one?

If so then it only needs light pruning. That won't correct it being bare in the middle. I don't think it sprouts from bare wood. Perhaps it's best to take some cuttings and start new plants.

Yes that’s the one and the same site I found.... to be honest if I can’t get the bottom half back I’ll probably give up on it as it is in a large pot and just looks really untidy.
