Will my squash ripen?

Unfortunately I broke the stalk of a large butternut squash completely when sliding plastic underneath. Does anyone know if this is likely to ripen and, if yes, should I leave it on the ground or put in the shed?

  • If you plan to use it in a month's time or so, should be absolutely fine. If it didn't have the chance to finish its maturation on the vine to wouldn't hope to keep it for later consumption.

I agree @amancalledgeorge, once severed they don't usually ripen any further and it won't be worth curing for storage as it wouldn't keep very long.

Butternut squash and sweet potato soup sounds good - shouldn't have said that, feeling hungry now  :D
