Magnolia tree pruning advice

I have an established magnolia tree but it is outgrowing it’s location. Is it possible to prune a magnolia? If it is then when would I do it and how should I do it. Any help is much appreciated.

What type of Magnolia is it? Is it deciduous or evergreen?

It’s evergreen but don’t know the exact variety. Sorry

Best to take it slow and easy over a few years I think.
